Half of my life is spent at 59 degrees North latitude on the shores of Alaska's Kachemak Bay. The other half is spent at 70 degrees North latitude on the Central Beaufort Sea Coast. Lots happens in between, too, in this land known as The Last Frontier.

Base Layers

Capilene  compression shorts will keep you dry by wicking moisture away from your body and help you avoid chafing.  Nice Smartwool socks and lightweight liners are invaluable.
Long and short sleeved capilene T-shirts will also wick moisture away.
Longjohns will bump up the insulation of your outer layer if it gets particularly cold and windy.
My Smartwool Hoodie is a go-to item that will see wear every single day on the trail.
I carry both Smartwool and Patagonia, and the major difference is that the capilene retains odor and the wool doesn't. Both perform very well though.
