Half of my life is spent at 59 degrees North latitude on the shores of Alaska's Kachemak Bay. The other half is spent at 70 degrees North latitude on the Central Beaufort Sea Coast. Lots happens in between, too, in this land known as The Last Frontier.

The First Aid Kit

A good first aid kit is not an optional item to haul; you simply must have one and know how to use it. If you are inexperienced in administering first aid I highly recommend taking a certified course before stumbling around in the backcountry. That being stated, what you put into your first aid kit is completely up to you. Mine is basic, but thorough: Stretch bandage,  multiple sized adhesive dressings, Steri-strip skin closures, Gauze, Neosporin and Alcohol pads, Nyquil and Dayquil pills, Immodium, Ibuprofen, Aspirin, Tums, Emergency Reflective Blankets,  Medical tape, tweezers, and prescription pain pills (Vicodin and Percoset). Don't forget sunscreen. Take a small nalgene and roll yards of duct tape and electrical tape  around it, then open up the Nyquil and Dayquil and put it in. Label the pills, you don't want to take Percoset for a runny nose. I also haul lip balm and visine, but keep those items close at hand for daily use.
