Half of my life is spent at 59 degrees North latitude on the shores of Alaska's Kachemak Bay. The other half is spent at 70 degrees North latitude on the Central Beaufort Sea Coast. Lots happens in between, too, in this land known as The Last Frontier.

The Puffy Suit

A down jacket is a must have for a serious winter expedition. This will be carried in my pack (this jacket IS NEVER and HAS NEVER BEEN compressed into a stuff sack),  and not dragged in the sled because I will need instant access to it. Stop on the trail for a quick bite or a rest and the jacket definitely comes out, often accompanied by the Neos overshoes. I strongly recommend purchasing one with a hood if you are serious about your gear. The jacket is by Patagonia and is unbelievably warm and light. The pants are Chugach by Mountain Hardwear and are a synthetic Polarguard fill.
